Disney just put the entire Metaverse on notice.
What’s up everybody, it’s LG Doucet here.
Last week, Disney did something that put the entire Metaverse on notice.
They brought back Bob Iger as CEO, a man who led Disney through several major content acquisitions including Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and just recently 21st Century Fox.
Bob retired in 2021 but was recently asked to un-retire after Disney's Board of Directors grew unhappy with his successor, Bob Chapek.
And what did Iger get up to during his short retirement?
He invested in, and join the board of GENIES, a metaverse fashion company with avatars that look a lot like Pixar characters.
I’m not saying Disney is gonna buy Genies - actually, far from it!
Rather, I think Disney is going to invest in some web3 tech, and significantly change their PARKS experience, and potentially make changes to Disney+ (its losing money).
To try and get a sense of what might happen at Disney, I wrote an entire episode about 12x NFT Sports companies, and whether they are BUYERS or SELLERS in the space right now.
I also looked at if this is the right climate for NFT acquisitions (hint: yes), and also WHY companies are acquired.
I’m back to my “irresponsible speculation” roots in this one.
