The 'Fandom Tier' 🎉
The main development over the past week was a major announcement regarding NBA Summer League — and the introduction of a new tier of moments.
Our live thread on the developments:
☀️ @nbatopshot Summer Thread ☀️
🏟 In-Arena moment purchases at #NBASummerLeague
⛱ 'Summer of 21' Set will feature 5 moments — 3 avail. in-arena, 1 challenge, 1 quest
📦 1 play per day from Summer League action
📊 Dynamic Mint — based on in-arena demand, min. 1000

A TLDR summary:
🔹Top Shot is sending collectors to Las Vegas for its next experience at the NBA Summer League from August 8-10.
🔹There will be Summer League moments available for purchase exclusively at the arena — and will be dynamically minted based on the demand. The in-arena moments will not feature the incoming rookie class, to preserve their Top Shot Debuts.
🔹These moments will fall into the ‘Fandom’ Tier, a new subset in between Common and Rare that will be utilized going forward for in-event releases and other dynamically minted moments (i.e. Quest rewards, promotional releases like The Gift, etc. — though previous releases will not be reclassified).
Additionally, a few interesting things to note from the ‘Fandom’ blog:
This unique tier will allow for some Quests that fit different themes, with different levels of rewards – ranging from very easy to more difficult. It will also allow for smaller unique drops in the future and fun twists and improvements on the status quo.
This is a potentially exciting development, as it allows for a wider and less predictable range of moments and combinations for future Quests. There are a million ways to create fun challenges going forward with more flexibility (for any FIFA Ultimate Team players, think Squad Building Challenges).
Another fun tidbit, from the ‘Summer of 21’ blog regarding perks for the lucky collectors who are eventually selected for the Vegas Experience:
Primary access to NBA Top Shot’s first official merchandise.
Are we ready for Top Shot merch? While Dapper Labs CEO Roham Gharegozlou has hinted at merchandise in the past, we’ve never seen even a hint of it coming until now. Can’t wait to see what the first iterations look like, and how something like Collector Score could give exclusive access to particular items.
