A WNBA Supply Storm ⛈
Featuring Another W Rare Drop, The ETH Merge in NBA Terms, A Bearded Unicorn & More
Good Morning, B&B Squad! Happy hump day — hope your week is off to an excellent start!
A few things from the NBA water cooler this week:
Ben Simmons claims he is a ‘dangerous shooter’ after practicing in the offseason. Wen 3PT moment on Top Shot?
This is now a Victor Wembanyama fan account. The projected 2023 No.1 overall pick was recently measured at 7-4 BAREFOOT with an 8-foot wingspan (Mo Bamba currently has the longest in the league at 7’10). Fire up the tanking!
Larsa Pippen (ex-wife of Scottie) was seen out with Marcus Jordan (son of MJ), and chaos ensued. Though it was later confirmed to be a ‘just-friends’ situation, Larsa doesn’t have the greatest track record. Let’s see if things get awkward.
A newly bearded Kristaps Porzingis has been balling at EuroBasket. I am all-in on the beard career-revival year narrative!
Let’s get into all the action from the last few days:
W Supply Storm ⛈
Fresh off of the WNBA Rare RSVP drop that seemed to have lower-than-usual demand comes… Another Rare drop announcement?
A Game Recognize Game Rare drop is next up on the books, with moments curated and narrated by Sue Bird hitting the platform on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
2,500 total packs will be available at $74 a pop, a slight decrease from the previous drop ($84).
Few problems here, in my honest opinion (some a bit more glaring than others):
With demand clearly not at an all-time high for W moments following the last drop, feels like a decision from the pre-Jayne days of mass oversupply.
For a niche audience on the platform, it feels like you need MORE scarcity than the NBA side, not less. As someone who doesn’t follow the W closely and hasn’t been collecting, I’d be much more likely to purchase a Sue Bird moment if it was one of the only ones on the platform — but she already has 7 to choose from!
This one might be a hot-take — I don’t like the narration over moments. It detracts from the collectible aspect of the platform to me, and just feels a bit gimmicky.
In summary:
And I have to agree with @jonboybeats here — after a lot of excitement this summer on the coming ‘net-neutral supply’ for NBA S4, seeing this situation still happen is a cold-water bucket of reality:
And since we’re on the topic of supply — a good example from the NBA side, with the platform’s most desirable player:
The Merge: NBA Style ⛓
You might’ve heard that the Ethereum ‘Merge’ is coming soon — an upgrade to the blockchain that is expected to result in a wealth of improvements.
But much of the info out there about the Merge is extremely technical, and unless you are a big brain — it might be a bit overwhelming. But no worries! I think I found a thread that might be of interest!
To recap the thread:
An efficiency upgrade from Reggie Bullock to prime LeBron James 😳
Security improvements, making hacking as difficult as sneaking onto the court at a Timberwolves game 🔒
Scalability increases, at the speed of DeAaron Fox (minus the NFT rugpulls)
A surge in processing power, compared to Jaylen Brown’s smarts 🧠
Sustainability increases and a reduction of carbon footprint, like the Atlanta Hawks’ arena — the first to receive a platinum certification for zero-waste 🌎
