Doodles Coming To Flow? 👀
Featuring the doodle-sized rumor, locked sets, 2022 volume, and a Sorare record.
Making Moves section⚡
There is a new section below that features easy moves you can make right now. This week it features Le Tour de France Quests and a FREE claim for TOC Packs.
Listen.
This is a not a new rumor.
Ever since NFT NYC people have been saying that Doodles will move to FLOW. Reasons being that:
They don’t want to build on Ethereum
They want to build on an L1
The founders are former Dapper Labs employees
Flow is easy for newbies to onboard
Doodles wants mass adoption
These have been documented time and time again in the mainstream NFT “news”.
But the rumor caught fire again this week, as Dapper CEO Roham Gharegozlou appeared to retweet a post from Doodles co-founder Poopie.
And shortly after, one of the biggest and most notorious voices in the space chimed in to support the potential move.
Now how “big” would this move be?
Well, it would represent by far the BIGGEST web3 native IP to come to Flow. It would also signal that FLOW is a major player on the scaling solution circuit, and worthy of big brand attention (similar to Polygon scooping up Reddit and Starbucks).
Poopie has also been teasing the upcoming feature on Doodles via Twitter, including this tidbit about customizable traits, which sounds a lot like what Reddit did with their avatars.
What do you think?
Let’s get into all the action from this past week.
📊 Top Sports Collections of 2022
Well folks, the results are in.
If you follow The First Mint on Twitter, we’ve been posting weekly volume rankings across Sports collection for the last few months, which are often led by Sorare (although the number includes their primary sales).
Our other faves like Top Shot and ALL DAY have each hovered in the $300-$1M weekly range, and now that 2022 has wrapped we can look back on their annual totals.
I know what you’re wondering - and no , I have no idea how Panini raked in $31M in secondary. Although I believe that number includes primary sales, same as Sorare.
Its actually shocking to see Top Shot hit $200M in secondary. Although its still popular, I hadn’t realized that it was THAT much more traded than the rest.
However, when we look at the Monthly Unique Buyers, we see a different story.
Now before you get angry, remember that most of the NFT space looks like this. Volume on NFTs seriously dropped off in 2022.
But damn, that TS drop off is steep! That’s 55,000 people that bought something in January but were no longer buyers come December. That’s enough to sell out Yankee Stadium!
Also of note, monthly Sorare buyers actually increased, likely due to the launch of NBA and MLB in the second half of 2022. And keep in mind, that figure combines ALL their properties together.
What will the chart look like next December? We’ll wait and see.
📸 Locked Set Snapshot
Like we warned in last week’s newsletter, Top Shot has officially taken its first “Locked Set” Snapshot.
The rewards are slated to start dropping in January and consist largely of *more* packs depending on the rarity level of the set.
In the short term, the locking snapshot moved the marketplace at least a little bit. Reminder, there is another Snapshot coming in May 2023.
🏅 Another Sorare Record
More positive news for the platform as it set its second-highest auction sale for NBA cards this week.
Keep in mind, this is how Sorare makes revenue (outside of the 5% fee on secondary), as they do not have pack sales or any other primary retail.
But man…mid season? Bear market? $50k? That’s absolutely wild!
And the lucky buyer does not f*ck around.
They own 10x other 1/1 Unique Cards, and 66x Super Rares!
A small warning though: As the season gets closer to a halfway point, we do have to start thinking about the end of the first Sorare NBA campaign, and wether prices + sentiment will tank once there are no more games.
Although not everyone considers them collectibles, we can’t help but think back to last month when Sorare outlined COLLECTIBILITY as a priority in 2022.
Which naturally, stirred a bit of controversy.
This is a new section that recaps immediate action items in web3 x sports.
And I want to remind everyone that none of this is financial advice. Please make your own decisions! This is simply a list of stuff you might have missed!

It was a scary week in sports following the Damar Hamlin injury on Monday Night Football, but good news came yesterday as he facetimed his teammates.
