Whatâs up people.
This is a special edition of the newsletter in celebration of the inaugural NFT DAY. I wanted to write up what NFTs mean to me, to our community, to the universe, and talk about the impact they have had on my life.
And coincidentally, Iâm actually out of the office today, completely offline. So enjoy this pre-written letter to the industry, as we all clutch our bags and hope for a brighter future together.
NFTs Changed My Life
No really.
I know we hear that often on Twitter, largely from people who minted something for a few bucks and sold for 1000x.
But collecting NFTs, starting The First Mint, and meeting thousands of people in our community has truly changed my life.
The pandemic presented many unforeseen challenges in my life: social isolation, actual despair (Iâm typically an optimist), and a collapse of my career (film production).
But what it gave - new friends, new allies, new prospects - is worth more than any ape or meme token could ever hope to return in financial value.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think Iâd get to log into the internet every morning and instantly connect to dozens of communities and peers. Nor did I think people would ever actually care to listen to what I think about a certain subject.
Needless to say, Iâve been incredibly lucky for all of this to happen.
We all have.
Weâre in a niche pocket of the web, alone in our convictions about the future of this space but crowded in our deep belief of its potential.
NFTs are something unlike any other that has come before it. They are equal parts meme stock, affluent brand, membership, cultural villain, and social movement. They are the place where normal people can win solely based on their taste, they conviction, and their commitment to research and community.
NFTs are the true Internet of Value. Or at the very least, the start of that paradigm.
Its hard to say where weâre going with all this, but I think we can all agree that what weâve got here - in the TFM community, in the Dapper community, and in the broader space of ETH, SOL, and the crypto curious - is something special.
And thats a great place to start.
So enjoy it. And take pride in the fact that we now have our own special day of the year. It will be a lot more crowded soon.
