Fast & Furious NFTs Sold Out in 5 Minutes🤯
A fresh pod for your Monday, featuring more Top Shot talk, NBA finals picks, some feel good sports stories, and Phil's favorite "guru"
What’s up everybody, it’s LG Doucet here.
Yes, you read the headline correctly.
Yesterday, Mattel sold 14,000 Fast & Furious themed NFTs at $20 each - and they were gone within minutes!
That is pretty wild considering that:
It’s the bear market.
The NFTs don’t feature any of the actors (just the cars from the first movie).
Everyone is pretty tired of this franchise (right…?)
That’s a cool $280,000 USD for Mattel, who has been selling Hot Wheels NFTs on FLOW since late 2022.
The key to this sell out?
The website.
These NFTs were sold on the primary Mattel site - the same place you can buy Barbies, He-Man, WWE, and other physical toys.
They are meeting the fans (Hot Wheels collectors, who are rabid), right where they are.
They’re not trying to sell them on “NFTs” - rather, they’re dropping special editions of the product, which happen to be digital collectibles, right in the collector’s home base.
Very smart strategy, and one that more brands need to adopt if they ever want to make money selling overpriced jpegs.
Unfortunately on this week’s pod, we had so many other things to discuss, that we didn’t even get a chance to touch on Hot Wheels…

And the winner, per Phil’s decision:
🏎️ SOLD OUT | Fast & Furious Hot Wheels
Cost: $20 on FLOW
Supply: No details yet
Time: Sold out
Thoughts: Honestly, how it the Charger not the rarest one? Come on man. It even has the fancy packaging!
🪐 May 24 | Star Wars on Cryptoys
Cost: $39.99 on FLOW
Supply: 30,000 total across all rarities
Time: Not announced
Thoughts: Easily the drop of the week in the NFT world, these will be insanely popular. However - Cryptoys still doesn’t have a marketplace, which is completely insane considering its May 2023.
A standard week in the sports world, as a few collections saw some good volume.
You might not know this - but the NHL Playoffs are still going on!
Can you name a team that won in the 1990s?
To celebrate two cinematic legends joining us on the podcast last week, we had to turn to our childhood for the films that meant the most to us.
And last, back to the future of the NBA here.
