Featuring The NBA Finals, Moment Rentals, Third Party Power, Challenge Corner, A Major TS Sale & More
GM, NFT Team! Hope you had an excellent weekend, and a great Memorial Day to our readers in the US!
The NBA Finals are set, and congrats to Boston Celtics fans out there on a hard-earned victory in Game 7. I think the better team definitely won, but man, Jimmy Butler almost dragged a pretty lifeless Miami Head squad to the damn Finals by himself!
I’m excited for what should be an awesome series between the Celtics and the Warriors, and an interesting contrast of styles. My prediction: Warriors in 6!
Let’s get into all the action from the last few days:
Rent Your Moments 🤑
After Top Shot launched the first iteration of moment ‘offers’ last week, we got another innovation on the marketplace front via Flowty — unlocking the ability for users to rent their moments:
Use cases for Owners:
- A *safe* way to rent out assets (finally)
- Unlocks benefits of stacking in @nbatopshot
- Help your community and friends (private listings!) with cheap rentals
- Much more! https://t.co/yq9aVqSEiq
Renting is yet another new dynamic for collectors, and yet another example of third-party companies helping build out features in the ecosystem. I’ve seen plenty of users in various Discords sending moments to others for Flash Challenges, which isn’t always the ‘safest’ way to loan out an asset.
A feature like rentals is a win-win, allowing users to both profit off moments without selling while also providing a challenge chaser with a cheaper entry point than what might be on the marketplace.
Unrelated — if you haven’t seen the actual video from the above GIF, enjoy this old Will Farrell skit, ‘Pearl the Landlord’ from like 10 years ago. It’s hilarious.
Speaking of third-party innovations:
While it's great that #NBATopShot released an offers system, it's hard to know that you received on offer.
Starting now, if you're registered on https://t.co/PBCwGxijVM (it's free!), you'll receive an email notification whenever someone places an offer on one of your moments.
This one is a bit more irritating to me — as it feels like this is something that Top Shot should have just implemented itself. Why do we need to rely on LiveToken to make up for a lack of a critical feature / unfriendly user experience?
That being said, it’s a much-needed detail — especially with how buried the offers section is on the platform. Hopefully as the feature rolls out to more people, this will be something we won’t have to rely on. But until then — beta!

We had one of the bigger sales in recent memory this weekend, with a TS collector scooping up a #1 serial from one of Anthony Edwards’ legendary S2 moments:
One of the rarest Moments on Top Shot just got scooped up 👀

Congrats on the purchase 🔥 https://t.co/cYnHt2UhkO
With the state of the Top Shot market (and the broader NFT market, and crypto markets, and global markets, and everything else that is bad everywhere) — this is a surprising buy.
In my early days of Top Shot (early 2021), a buy like this wasn’t that surprising. However, as the ‘meta’ of Top Shot shifted away from collectibles (treating moments like memorabilia) and more towards gamification and utility, it feels like these type of major purchases have been few and far between.
But clearly, there are still collectors who view these as more than just a Flash Challenge inclusion or future set reward!
