🎙️The Bull Case For Web3 Gaming
A masterful dunk contest, a Damian Lillard deja-vu, and a brand new podcast episode on the Bull Case for web3 gaming.
What’s up everybody, it’s LG Doucet here.
Basketball prom is over - and thank goodness. I think we all need a little break!
February was a busy month for the NBA:
LeBron broke the record
KD, Russ, and Kyrie were all traded
The All-Star Weekend went down
And hey there was even a Super Bowl in there somewhere!
This weekend was pretty awesome, I must admit. It started with a Steve Jobs-style reveal from Adam Silver, followed by a dramatic Rising Stars game finish.
We were then treated to a Slam Dunk contest that delivered MCU-level-fan service, followed by an All-Star game that…was kind of dull. But still.
We’ve got the highlights first, followed by this week’s podcast below.
🎥 Highlights From All-Star Weekend
Kicking off Friday night, when the only un-drafted player in the Rising Stars game - Jose Alvarado - called game just seconds before actually finishing it.
And speaking of un-drafted players, internet sensation Mac McClung delivered an absolutely fantastic Dunk Contest victory, in the best edition in years.
McClung also dunk over two people.
Over to the actual game on Sunday, the NBA moved the draft to precede the contest (it was previously held a few days prior). And Jokic had to practically beg LeBron to not make him the last pick once again.
LeBron had a highlight of his own in the game, with this awesome self pass off the backboard.
We were also treated to this beautiful Ja Morant dunk, alongside a mic’d up Luka Doncic and Giannis.
Back to Bron - the game wasn’t all smiles for the king as he was injured and literally left the game. How you gonna get injured on defence during an All-Star game??
And to end on a high note, here’s Damian Lillard doing Damian Lillard things by hitting a 3 pointer from beyond half court.
And a reminder that he also hit a wild half court shot in 2021’s All-Star Game:
Lillard also won it for Team Giannis.
Alright that’s enough highlights. Let’s talk NFTs.
🕹️ Today’s Pod: The Bull Case For Web3 Gaming
Nerd Alert.
Today’s guest, Bored Elon Musk, is just as big a nerdlinger as I am.
Like we literally spend the first 20 minutes of the show talking about Sci-Fi movies, and how much the original Tron influenced both of us.
Bored Elon Musk (BEM for short), is a career-gaming executive and major advocate for web3 gaming. I wanted him to come on the show and tell us why he is so bullish (to the point where he has angel invested tons), and what it will take for games to break through.
He also helps illuminate the types of games that are play hundreds of millions of people (i.e. Candy Crush), and how those may have even more potential than the big AAA names we’re expecting the space to produce.
Highlights from this one:
Why he went with Bored Elon Musk as his name
How he’s tried up to 10x different internet personas in the past
How Sci-Fi games have integrated with mainstream culture
His thesis for web3 gaming
What it will take for normal gamers to enter the market
And hey, the intro to this episode also features some major news related to the podcast, starting with next week’s episode 200 👀
Enjoy.
Quick - what is the best sports NFT out there?
We have no idea, so we turned to our community for the answer.
That last one might be pretty close.
It’s from a project called MLB Champions that dates back to 2018, and was officially licensed. We’ll be profiling it on a future episode of the podcast.
And speaking of baseball - Opening Day is in 37 days!
