🎙️The Master Plan at Sorare
A sit down chat with the man who has raised over $700M for the future of fantasy sports on the blockchain. Plus, a wee bit of alpha about the platform.
What’s up everybody, it’s LG Doucet here.
When I started my NFT journey almost 3 years ago (my god…) the fantasy platform Sorare was one of the first projects I checked out.
And to be perfectly honest, I didn’t find it very interesting. It was the middle of the pandemic, and no sports were on at all. So not really in the fantasy mood you know?
I also wasn’t much of a soccer fan, and definitely was not up to date on the current players, so why give it a go?
When my brother Phil D joined the space, I told him he should check it out (he loves all sports). But even he wasn’t too impressed.
My. How the turn tables.
Right now, I set about 6-7 Sorare lineup every week.
The platform is super fun. Its what fantasy sports should become with blockchain: a system where you buy the players you want, and then trade them as you please (with regulated supply, of course).
And today, we’ve got the man behind it all on the show.
🏆 The Master Plan at Sorare | Nicolas Julia
What a chill guy.
For someone who has raised over $700M for his platform (and is also the same age as me), he is so relaxed. There’s no panic in those eyes. There’s a master plan.
On the show, he opens up about his priorities for the product, and how hiring is the absolute most important thing he is doing right now.
I also challenge him on why Sorare pays so much for marketing, as they’ve signed tons of top influencers, content creators, and famous athletes to their ambassador program.
I also ask him what his message is for people who are resistant to trying the platform. And he plays coy a bit - why are they resistant, he asks me.
And toward’s the end of the show, he even dishes a little bit of alpha on what other types of exciting NFTs are coming to Sorare.
Highlights from this one:
How he collected Panini as a kid, and even still buys them today (he bought some for the World Cup and opened with his daughters!)
His biggest moment at Sorare:
Meeting Zinedine Zidane, his idol!
Finishing 2022 on a high note (high user growth despite the macro)
How France’s political wheel helps support its thriving tech ecosystem and promote companies like Sorare.
Major alpha: Sorare is considering collaborating with top artists and dropping some ART on the platform!
How he is not focused on building their own chain or making their own token: rather, he’s focused on the community aspect
And topped off with a pretty epic “would you rather”!
