🎙️ The Venture Punk
Featuring Rihanna Prop Bets, a massive pack collection, and a chat with the Venture Punk himself (and Santa Claus aficionado)
Man. There is nothing like that Super Bowl hangover.
What I love about the SB is that its last true beacon of live broadcast: a big 4-hour show, complete with 20-minute concert and $16 billion of betting.
And to keep things interesting for the non-sports peeps, many books offer an extended list of half time prop bets. This year, they included:
What will be the color of Rihanna's hair? (Black -600)
What color will Rihanna's first outfit be? (Red +800)
Rihanna's first song performed (B*tch Better Have My Money +1500)
And my absolute fave: the miscellaneous section.
Yes, that’s right, you could have bet money on Rihanna wearing a bucket hat. Or her proposing to A$SAP Rocky on stage (she did neither).
Anyway, back to actual sports.
The hangover is real, mainly because we’re left with an enormous gap in the sports world. After all, 82 out of the top 100 most-watched broadcasts in 2022 were NFL games.
On the NFT side:
The NFL ALL DAY season is over (or is it? Team can be sneaky).
Top Shot + Sorare are prepping for the NBA All Star Game.
UFC Strike has a game coming.
March Madness has…no NFTs whatsoever.
The MLS will start soon on Sorare.
So beyond non fungibles, there’s definitely a void.
So please tell us, dearest TFM community, what now?
And now let’s get to this week’s pod.
🎙️This Week’s Podcast: The Venture Punk
Do you remember the show Santa Calls? It was a Canadian TV show back in the 1990s, where children would call in live to a studio and speak to Santa Claus.
At the time, my young brain thought this was the most incredible thing in the world. You can call him, and speak to him on live television? 🤯
We were early!
And lucky for the kids for the next generation, the 2010s saw an even better Santa platform in the form of the Hello Santa app, where kids could facetime directly with Santa (and not suffer the embarrassments of live broadcast).
And wouldn’t you know it, the man behind Hello Santa is our guest today. And ever since he sold Hello Santa, he’s been in the crypto space.
Jordan Lyall’s list of contributions to NFTs are quite numerous given the short lifespan of this most recent cycle.
MEME Token: In the summer of 2020, he inadvertently kickstarted one of the most successful trends in NFTs (staking). At one point, the marketcap of his MEME project was $3M, despite it originating from a joke tweet.
Nifty’s Platform: In 2021, he co-founded Nifty’s, a NFT platform that launched The Matrix NFTs, Looney Tunes, Game of Thrones (yes, those), and various art projects.
Venture Punk: He now operates his own creative Lab, Venture Punk, from which they have launched Santa.FM, RaCC0ons, and this week Levels.Art
In this week’s pod, we chat about his ventures, his time in the space, and what comes next for the platform.
And yes, he admits that his career continues to revolve around Santa apps.
Enjoy!
Former TFM podcast guest Alxo shared his unopened Top Shot pack collection recently, and we had to ask Twitter how much these would be valued at.
We also asked if you would rather the yet-to-be-available Cybertruck, or an NFL ALL DAY 1/1 Moment (roughly the same cost).
